Tata Digital has named Sajith Sivanandan as its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. Sivanandan, currently President of Jio Mobile Digital Services, is set to take charge on September 1, filling a leadership vacuum that has existed since May following the exit of former CEO Naveen Tahilyani.
The appointment was announced via an internal communication to employees earlier this week. With this leadership change, Tata Digital — the ecommerce arm of Tata Sons — signals a renewed push to sharpen its competitive edge in a crowded digital commerce space.
Sivanandan brings with him over three decades of experience spanning technology, media, telecom, payments, and consulting across India and the broader Asia-Pacific region. Prior to his stint at Jio, he served as CEO of Disney+ Hotstar and held leadership roles at Google, where he led Google Pay and the Next Billion Users initiative in APAC.
His entry marks a pivotal moment for Tata Digital, which is aiming to strengthen its position against established ecommerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart, as well as fast-growing quick-commerce platforms such as Zepto, Blinkit, and Instamart.
Since Tahilyani’s departure, Tata Digital has been managed by a six-member interim management council, formed by Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran. The council, which reports to the Board weekly, comprises senior executives including CFO Hardeep Guru, CBO–Financial Services Gaurav Hazrati, CSO Satyam Mehra, CBO Seshadri Narasimhan, CMO Abhimanyu Lal, and CTO Vinay Vaidya.
With Sivanandan at the helm, the company is expected to refocus on strategic execution and internal cohesion as it prepares for its next phase of growth.
