Marking a significant step in its ESG journey, Lemon Tree Hotels has achieved 100 percent green building certification across its entire portfolio of 41 owned hotels. In addition, the company has reached a 50 percent renewable energy usage exit rate as of March 31, 2026. This dual milestone highlights its continued focus on responsible growth and strengthens its positioning in India’s sustainable hospitality landscape.
The certifications have been awarded by the Indian Green Building Council, part of the Confederation of Indian Industry, based on parameters such as sustainable architecture and design, site planning, water conservation, energy efficiency, use of building materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, as well as innovation and development.
Since 2012, Lemon Tree Hotels has followed a design led approach to sustainability, developing all owned properties in accordance with Indian Green Building Council standards. This has enabled the seamless integration of energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable materials, and lower environmental impact across its portfolio, while remaining aligned with regulatory requirements.
Currently, the company’s owned portfolio comprises 2 hotels certified at Platinum level, 22 at Gold level, 6 at Silver level, and 11 at Certified level.
Reaching 50 percent renewable energy usage highlights a broader evolution in operating models within the sector, where energy sourcing, efficiency, and long term cost optimisation are increasingly central to business resilience.
Speaking on the milestone, Neelendra Singh, Managing Director & CEO, Lemon Tree Hotels Ltd., said, “The hospitality industry is at an inflection point where sustainability must move beyond intent to measurable action at scale. Our journey towards a fully green-certified owned portfolio and increased reliance on renewable energy reflects a long-term, design-led approach.”
C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, CII IGBC, added that the achievement reflects a long-term commitment to sustainability and sets a benchmark for the industry.
