Blinkit chief financial officer Vipin Kapooria has resigned from his role, around 16 months after joining the quick-commerce company, according to a PTI report.

Kapooria joined Blinkit in September last year from Flipkart, where he had spent multiple stints since 2015. During his earlier career, he also worked at hospitality major OYO as vice president for business finance. At Blinkit, he became the company’s first full-time CFO in nearly two years, filling a position that had remained vacant since Amit Sachdeva’s exit in 2022 following Blinkit’s acquisition by Zomato, now rebranded as Eternal.

During his tenure, Kapooria worked closely with Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa and Eternal CFO Akshant Goyal. He joined the company shortly before Eternal raised Rs 8,500 crore through a qualified institutional placement last year.

Kapooria’s departure comes at a time of intensifying competition in the quick-commerce segment. Blinkit is competing aggressively with Zepto and Swiggy Instamart, while ecommerce giants Amazon and Flipkart are also scaling up their 10-minute delivery services. Flipkart entered the category in mid-2024 and is preparing for a potential initial public offering next year, alongside completing the redomiciling of its headquarters from Singapore to India.

The broader quick-commerce space has seen heightened capital market activity over the past year. Swiggy recently raised Rs 10,000 crore through a QIP, while Zepto has reportedly filed confidential draft papers with SEBI for an IPO that could raise over Rs 11,500 crore next year.

Blinkit continues to scale rapidly despite the leadership change. In 2025, the platform surpassed the gross order value of Eternal’s core food delivery business for the first time. It currently operates about 1,816 dark stores and plans to expand beyond 2,000 stores by the end of the calendar year.

The development also comes amid nationwide protests by delivery partners across major app-based platforms, including Blinkit. Gig workers in several cities have staged strikes over concerns related to pay structures, working hours, algorithm-driven targets and the absence of social security benefits.
